TracStor›Investors
Everyone owns more than they can find.
TracStor is the inventory app for the places people keep things: homes, garages, storage units and second homes. It answers one question better than anything else on a phone: where is it?
Executive summary
TracStor turns every bin, box and shelf into a searchable, labeled location. Users label containers with QR codes from a $27 thermal printer or with NFC stickers that cost cents, add contents by voice or photo in seconds, and find anything with a search that returns the exact bin and its full location path. It runs entirely on the phone, with no account.
- Problem
- Americans spend about 2.5 days a year looking for lost things, and US households spend $2.7B a year replacing them.1 More than half of homeowners have no inventory of what they own.2
- Beachhead
- 16.7 million US households rent a self-storage unit, a record 12.6% of households.3 They pay every month to store things they can't see.
- Product
- Android app, version 4.0, in early access. Location-first data model (places, floor plans, stacks, bins inside bins), direct printing to Bluetooth label printers, NFC, one-item voice entry, backup and export.
- Edge
- Private by design (no account, no cloud) and hardware-native (NFC plus direct thermal printing). In our review we found no account-free, Android-native competitor, and no competitor that advertises NFC tags or direct thermal printing.10
- Model
- Free core plus a TracStor Plus subscription (family sharing, multiple homes) and label-kit sales. Sync runs through the customer's own Google Drive, so serving costs stay near zero.
- Next
- Family sharing, Google Play launch, iPhone, then partnerships with storage operators, movers and insurers.
Problem
Storage is cheap; retrieval isn't. People buy totes, shelving and storage units to get things out of sight, and then lose track of them. The usual fixes don't hold up. Marker labels can't list forty items and go stale the moment something moves. Spreadsheets don't get updated from the garage floor. Most inventory apps were built for small-business stock or insurance claims, and they're list-first rather than place-first.
Why now
Labels got cheap
A 2-inch Bluetooth thermal label printer that ships with 50 × 30 mm labels sells for $26.99 to $49.99.7 NFC stickers cost about $0.54 each in small quantities.8 Labeling a whole garage now costs less than one replaced power tool.
Phones listen on-device
Android has shipped an on-device speech recognizer API since Android 12, and Google's on-device speech models keep improving.9 Dictating an item works in a basement with no signal.
Everyone has the hardware
91% of US adults own a smartphone.6 The camera reads QR codes and the NFC reader is already in most Android phones.
Market
We size the opportunity bottom-up from households, not from adjacent product categories. Figures are US only.
| Segment | Households | Basis | At $39 / yr |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beachhead: households renting self-storage | 16.7M | SSA 2025 Demand Study3 | $650M |
| Core: homeowners with no home inventory | ≈ 46M | 53% without an inventory2 × ≈ 87M owner households (132.4M3 × 65.7% homeownership11) | $1.8B |
| Broad: all US households with a smartphone | ≈ 120M | 132.4M households3 × 91% smartphone adults6 | $4.7B |
The $39 a year is our planned TracStor Plus price, in line with consumer peers such as Under My Roof at $34.99 a year and BoxQR at $100 a year.10 These are illustrative revenue pools, not forecasts. The rows overlap, and the broad row ignores platform split until the iPhone version ships.
Adjacent spend shows how much people already pay to deal with their things. US self-storage is an industry of about $40B a year12, and about 11.8% of people in the US move every year13, the moment they're most willing to label everything.
Product
TracStor 4.0 is a working Android app, built and tested on a real multi-location inventory. What sets it apart:
Location-first
Nested places, floor plans drawn to scale with areas, stacks, and bins inside bins. Search returns the full location path, not just a list entry.
Unit #214 › Back left › Stack A › 2nd from topHardware-native
Prints labels straight to Bluetooth TSPL thermal printers and reads and writes NFC tags. Labels leave the location off, so moving a bin never means reprinting.
Fast capture
One-item voice entry (the words said become the name), photo-first adding, and just-added items pinned to the top for quick fixes.
Private and durable
No account, no analytics. Full backup to a ZIP with CSV exports, 30-day undo, and a start-up integrity check. It works offline.
Competition
The category splits into business inventory tools (Sortly, Snipe-IT, Encircle), Apple-only home inventory apps (Under My Roof, Nest Egg), and cloud QR-box apps (BoxQR, SnapFind). TracStor is the only one we found that combines account-free privacy, an Android-native app, NFC and direct label printing.
| App | Platforms | Account / cloud | NFC tags | Thermal printing | Price | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TracStor | Android (iPhone planned) | None needed | Yes | Direct, Bluetooth TSPL | Free in early access | Home, garage, storage |
| Sortly | iOS, Android, web | Required | Not advertised | Not advertised | Free (100 items); paid from $49/mo | Small business |
| Under My Roof | iPhone, iPad, Mac | None (iCloud) | Not advertised | Not advertised | $34.99/yr | Home inventory, insurance |
| Nest Egg | iOS | None (optional Dropbox) | Not advertised | Not advertised | $6.99 | Home inventory |
| Itemtopia | iOS, Android, Mac, web | Cloud sync | Not advertised | Not advertised | Subscription | Home inventory, warranties |
| BoxQR | Web, iOS | Required | Not advertised | Not advertised | Free (10 bins); $100/yr | QR box labels |
| SnapFind | iOS, Android | Cloud | Not advertised | Not advertised | Free tier | AI photo + QR labels |
| Homebox | Self-hosted web | Your own server | Not advertised | Not advertised | Free, open source | Homelab inventory |
| Encircle | iOS, Android | Required | Not advertised | Not advertised | From $285/mo | Restoration contractors |
From each product's public website and app store listing, reviewed October 2026.10 “Not advertised” means we found no mention of it, not that the feature is impossible.
Business model
Planned. TracStor is free during early access; pricing below is our current plan and will be tested before launch.
Free
One home, unlimited bins and items, labels, NFC, search, backup. Free stays genuinely useful, because word of mouth starts with it.
TracStor Plus
About $39 a year. Family sharing, multiple homes and storage units, printable label packs, priority support. Sync uses the customer's own Google Drive, so there is almost no serving cost.
Label kits
Pre-encoded NFC stickers and label rolls sized for the printers TracStor supports, sold in-app and with partners.
Partnerships (later)
- Self-storage operators: TracStor for tenants as a move-in perk, co-branded labels, “what's in my unit” before the drive.
- Movers: label at packing, scan at unpacking.
- Insurers: a photo inventory that already exists before a claim, with exports.
Traction
Early and honest: TracStor is product-complete for its first use case and in early access. No revenue yet.
- In daily use on a real inventory across several rooms and closets, which drives the roadmap.
- Over-the-air update pipeline for testers: we publish a build and test phones install it the same hour.
- Tested end to end with a consumer thermal label printer (Clabel CT221B).
Roadmap
| Stage | What ships | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Now | Android early access, invite-only; OTA test builds | Retention: do people keep adding bins after week one? |
| Next | Family sharing via Google Drive; Google Play listing; TracStor Plus | Willingness to pay; households with two or more active users |
| Then | iPhone app; label kits; multiple homes and storage units | Cross-platform households; attach rate for kits |
| Later | Storage operator, mover and insurer partnerships | Distribution at the moment of need |
