What's new

TracStor is in early access, and it moves fast: 44 versions since October 1, 2026, each built and tested on a real inventory. This is the same list the app shows under Help › What's new.

Version 4.12

  • Clearer notifications: TracStor's notifications (selling copy buttons, loan reminders, app updates) now show the TracStor pin-and-tote icon instead of a plain circle.
  • Report fixes: a PDF report made without item photos no longer shows a "With a photo" count on its cover, and tapping the words Item photos or Receipts now ticks the box too.

Version 4.11

  • Insurance & inventory PDF report (Settings): an insurance record with every item's value, make, model, serial number, purchase date and price, photo and receipts, totals by place and category, and a signature line; or a plain inventory list of what's where. Everything or one place.
  • Value & insurance card on every item: replacement value, make, model, serial number, purchase date and price, and receipt photos.

Version 4.10

  • Sell on Facebook Marketplace: every item has a Sell card. TracStor writes the listing (title, price, condition, description, a suggested Facebook category), puts the item's photos first in your gallery, copies the title and opens Facebook's Create listing, where you're already signed in. Copy buttons for the price and description wait in a TracStor notification.
  • Track the sale anywhere: mark it for sale on eBay, Craigslist, OfferUp, a garage sale or anywhere else. Lists show "For sale · $45 · Facebook Marketplace", Home has a For sale filter, and Sold records the price in its history and takes it out of your inventory (with Undo).

Version 4.9

  • Supported phones: TracStor needs Android 10 or later with NFC and a camera, and Google Play now only offers it to phones that have both.com/devices.html.

Version 4.8

  • Prints line up after a size change: the first label after you change a printer's roll size (or gap) starts in the right place. Before, it began where the old size left off, a few millimetres too high or low. TracStor now tells the printer to find the start of the next label first, which can feed one blank label.
  • Line up the roll (Settings › Label printers › your printer): feeds to the start of the next label. Use it after loading a new roll.
  • Clearer test label: millimetre rulers on all four edges, numbered from the top and left, so a cut-off side or a blank strip reads straight off in mm. The frame now sits half a millimetre inside the edge, so normal roll tolerance doesn't hide it.
  • Did it fit? has a new answer, Shifts from label to label: it lines the roll up, prints another test, and reminds you to check the roll's size.

Version 4.7

  • Sub-categories: every category can hold sub-categories, like Drone Parts › Flight Controllers. Pick one when you add or edit an item (or a bin): tap a category's arrow to see its sub-categories, or search ("flight" finds it).
  • Add a sub-category right in the picker: open a category and tap Add a sub-category to …, or type the whole thing, e.g. Drone Parts > Flight Controllers, and TracStor creates both.
  • 100 starting sub-categories: each of the ten starting categories has ten (Tools & Home Improvement › Hand Tools, Power Tools, Fasteners & Hardware…). Their example words help search ("pliers" finds Hand Tools), and dictation now picks the most specific one ("needle-nose pliers" → Hand Tools).
  • Filters and search include sub-categories: choosing Electronics & Accessories on Home also shows everything in its sub-categories, and searching a category's name finds items in its sub-categories.
  • Admin console › Categories shows the tree, with Add sub-category and Move under… for each category. "Groups" are gone: sub-categories replace them (existing groups became categories holding what was in them).

Version 4.6

  • Add a printer sets itself up: switch a new printer on, open Add a printer, and TracStor picks it (the closest one, if several) and sets it up without a tap. Not the one you meant? Tap ← and choose.
  • Each printer is asked its label roll instead of copying another printer's size, with more sizes (including 40 × 26) and Other size… for any width and height.
  • New test label: a line on every edge, a ruler, corner arrows and the settings used, so you can see at once if the size or position is off.
  • Did it fit? After a test label, tap what's wrong (cut off on the right or left, starts too low or high, too faint, too dark, upside down, negative). TracStor adjusts that printer and prints another test label.
  • Move the print left, right, up or down in half-millimetre steps for a printer that doesn't start where the label does.
  • Fixes: a long batch no longer stops partway or prints twice; settings changed while printing are kept; a device that isn't a printer (like headphones) isn't saved as one unless you choose Add anyway; a Bluetooth search that Android pauses now says so.

Version 4.5

  • Bin comes first in Home's Add list.
  • Label printers, rebuilt: save as many printers as you like, each with its own label roll and settings, and switch between them right above the Print button. Add a printer searches Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy at once, shows printers first (including ones whose name shows up late), pairs automatically, checks the printer answers, and lets you print a test label. If something goes wrong it says why and what to try. No printer app is needed; TracStor talks to the printer itself.

Version 4.4

  • Send feedback: report a problem, request a feature or tell us what you think, from one form. Open Help (the ? on Home) and tap Report a problem, Request a feature or Send feedback near the top, or the feedback icon at the top right.

Version 4.3

  • Reset locations to default (Settings › Admin console › Locations › Reset to default…): removes all your locations, with their floor plans, and adds the 20 common places (untick the box to start with none, like a new install). Nothing else is deleted: bins and items show No location. Undo reset puts everything back until you leave the admin console.
  • Reset categories to default (Admin console › Categories › Reset to default…): leaves just the 10 starting categories, with their usual names and order. Your own categories are dropped from bins and items. Undo reset works the same way.
  • Restore defaults on the Categories tab is now Re-add missing defaults: it only adds starting categories you've removed.

Version 4.2

  • Delete all data (Settings › Admin console › Data): empties TracStor and starts it fresh, as a new install. A full backup is saved first, so Undo delete all puts everything back.

Version 4.1

  • The TracStor logo now sits next to the name at the top of the home screen.
  • New record button: a red circle with a white microphone. While TracStor listens, the soft ring around it grows when the phone hears you. The Say it again button in Review dictated item uses it too.

Version 4.0

  • App updates (testing) (Settings): point TracStor at the update server on your PC and new test builds arrive by themselves. When one is ready you see TracStor 4.1 is ready above the tabs (or a notification); tap Install, then Update in Android's installer. Your data stays. Builds pushed with Push now pop up straight away.

Version 3.9

  • Backup & export (Settings): Back up now saves one ZIP file with everything (bins, items, locations, floor plans, categories, tags, history and all photos) plus spreadsheets you can open in Excel. Save it to Google Drive or a computer, so a lost or reset phone doesn't lose your inventory. Restore from a backup puts it all back, on this phone or a new one.
  • Self-check: each time TracStor starts it checks that bins, items, places and tags still point at each other correctly, and repairs anything that doesn't (listed in the admin console's log).

Version 3.8

  • On a bin's screen, Photos of contents now comes right after Photos of bin, above Tags & labels.

Version 3.7

  • Floor plans: tap an area, then its bins. On a floor plan, tap an area (it's outlined), then tap each bin below that's in it. The bin takes the area's color, so you can see at a glance what's where. Tap a bin again to take it back out. (Tapping a bin first, then its area, still works.)
  • Every area has its own color, on the plan and on the bins in it.
  • Fixed: typing a quantity on an item no longer turns 1 into 10. The box can be empty while you type (it shows a grey 0).

Version 3.6

  • Put a bin in an area right from the bin: tap the picture at the right of the bin's header (Where it is), then tap an area on the floor plan. The bin moves there. Tap the empty floor for "in the room, no particular area".
  • + New area there adds an area to the room's plan and puts the bin in it in one step, even when the place has no floor plan yet.

Version 3.5

  • Where the bin is, at a glance: the picture at the right of a bin's header now shows where it is in its place: the floor plan with its area pinned in red (or, if the place has no floor plan, the stack with its box in red).
  • Tap it for Where it is: the floor plan, its box in the stack, and the GPS map of where the bin was entered (still there to fine-tune or open in Google Maps, just not front and center).

Version 3.4

  • Floor plans: open a place (Locations › a place) and tap Floor plan. Draw the place as a rectangle at its real size, add areas (a closet, a desk, a shelf wall), drag them where they are and drag their corner to size them. To put a bin in an area, tap the bin, then the area. Areas are places inside the place, so search, filters and labels know about them.
  • Item photos in the list: a bin's items show their first photo between the name and the count.
  • Photo (next to Type and Dictate) now starts a new item from a photo: snap it, then name it. Photos of what's inside the bin are still under Photos of contents.
  • Delete bins your way: Delete bin (keep all items in inventory) or Delete bin (remove all items in bin), then "Are you sure you want to delete this bin?" Yes / No. In the bin's ⋮ menu, and on Home: long-press bins to select them, then the trash icon.

Version 3.3

  • Notes on bins: a Notes field in the bin form (type it or tap the mic to dictate) for status and reminders, such as "Hasn't been inventoried yet". Notes show on the bin, on its card in the Home list, and search finds them.
  • Keywords on bins and items: words to find and filter them by ("xt60, lipo, drone"). Type them with commas, or tap the mic and say them. Keywords you've used before are offered to tap. Search finds them, and Home has a new Keyword filter.
  • Photos while creating: the new-bin form has Photo (snap what the bin looks like; the first photo is its cover), and so does Home's Add item sheet.
  • Dictate notes anywhere there's a Notes field: bin form, Add item, the item screen.

Version 3.2

  • Dictate one item at a time. Tap Dictate, say the item ("Phillips screwdriver"), and TracStor stops listening when you pause. What it heard is the name, exactly; the count starts at 1.
  • Review dictated item: change the name, count or category, tap the mic to say it again, and add a photo right there. Save & next saves it and listens for the next item.
  • Photos while adding: Type (Add item) has a Photo button too. No more saving an item, finding it, and then adding its picture.
  • New items come first. Whatever you just added is at the top of the bin's list, highlighted and marked Just added · tap to edit, so a mistake is one tap away.
  • Search inside a bin: the magnifier at the top of a bin searches just that bin's items (names, notes, categories, codes).
  • Bin labels no longer show the location, so moving a bin doesn't mean printing a new label. They show the bin's name and code, its category, and a random selection of what's inside ("+6 more" when they don't all fit). Tape Code labels show the category under the code.

Version 3.1

  • Adding a category works everywhere again. Type a new name in any category picker and tap Add "…": it's created and chosen.

Version 3.0

  • Much better at understanding what you say. Dictate the way you talk: "um, there's three screwdrivers, uh, half a dozen hooks, no wait, eight, and another screwdriver".
  • Satellite view of your home: the bin's map is now a top-down satellite picture with a pin. Tap it to slide the pin onto the exact room or corner where the bin lives.
  • Advanced Mode (Settings): extra features, starting with loans. Note who borrowed an item and when you want it back; TracStor reminds you at 9 AM that day.
  • Label preview: Tape Code, Save Label as Image. Other printer and Change printer are gone from the preview while the Clabel is the only printer (Settings › Label printer still lets you re-pick it).

Version 2.9

  • The big-code label style is now called Tape code, with Code for a piece of tape 🙂 underneath.

Version 2.8

  • You can see what printing is doing: under the button, "Connecting to CT221B-…", "Sending the label…" or "Pairing…", with a running count of seconds.
  • Stop: if a print hasn't finished after 5 seconds, Print turns into a red Stop button. Tap it to cancel straight away.
  • Faster answer when the printer is off: TracStor now says Is the printer on? after about 5 seconds instead of trying for much longer.

Version 2.7

  • When a print fails and the Clabel app is on your phone, a Close Clabel button appears under the message. It opens Clabel's App info: tap Force stop, then OK, come back and tap Print. Clabel can hold the printer's only connection, and Android doesn't let one app close another.

Version 2.6

  • The label button is now just QR Label (bin header, ⋮ menu, item cards), and the print button just Print.
  • When TracStor can't reach the printer, the message starts with Is the printer on? and appears right under the print button in the label preview.

Version 2.5

  • Clabel printers connect by themselves: when you print and no printer is set yet, a paired CT221… printer is used straight away. If it isn't paired, TracStor finds it nearby and pairs it automatically with its code (0000). No taps needed.
  • Fixed: labels had a blank strip on the right again, because TracStor started with a 40 × 30 mm label size. It now starts at 50 × 30 mm, the Clabel roll; change it in Settings › Label printer if your roll differs.

Version 2.4

  • Common storage locations built in: ten at home (Closet, Garage, Basement, Attic, Pantry, Cabinet / Cupboard, Drawer, Shelf / Bookcase, Under-Bed Storage, Shed / Outdoor Storage) and ten away from home (Self-Storage Unit, Office / Workplace, Warehouse, Workshop / Makerspace, Vehicle, Trailer / RV, Rented Garage / Parking Space, Locker, Friend's / Family Member's Home, Safe Deposit Box / Secure Vault). Each has its own icon and typical contents.
  • Every location menu has Add a common place: pick one and it's created and chosen in one tap. The empty Locations tab offers them as starters, and Add location shows them grouped At home / Away from home.

Version 2.3

  • Pairs the printer for you. If the Clabel printer isn't paired with the phone, Choose printer › Find a nearby printer finds it and pairs it using its pairing code (0000), so you don't need Android's Bluetooth settings. Change the code in Settings › Label printer › Pairing code if your printer uses another one.
  • If the printer gets unpaired later, printing pairs it again automatically.

Version 2.2

  • Ten simple starting categories: Kitchen & Dining, Clothing & Accessories, Electronics & Accessories, Tools & Home Improvement, Cleaning & Household Supplies, Furniture & Home Décor, Bedding & Bath, Health & Personal Care, Toys, Games & Hobbies, and Sports & Outdoor. The category picker shows what typically goes in each, and searching it finds them by those words ("chargers"). Add your own anytime.
  • On this update, the old long starting list is replaced; any old category already used by a bin or item stays.
  • The header reads TracStor.

Version 2.1

  • Home shows TRACSTOR, Storage tracking, simplified. at the top.
  • The logo now sits on the app's own off-white background.
  • With nothing added yet, Home says Nothing yet: Clean up your life. Add something. Its Add button opens the same Item / Bin / Scan choice as the Add button in the corner.

Version 2.0

  • New name: TracStor. This is the app formerly called BoxTrack, with every feature carried over: short codes, item labels and NFC tags, stacks, direct printing to the Clabel printer, filterable history and the rest. It's a separate app with its own (empty) inventory, so add your bins here; labels and NFC tags made by BoxTrack keep opening BoxTrack.

Version 1.14

  • Show QR label moved to the bin's header, right next to Set its spot in the stack › (or under the stack picture when the bin is placed). It's still in the ⋮ menu too.

Version 1.13

  • Label size: choose the size of your label roll in Settings › Label printer (40 × 30, 50 × 30, 50 × 25, 50 × 40, 40 × 20, 30 × 20 mm). Labels are laid out to fill it, so a 50 × 30 roll no longer has a blank strip on the right. The preview, saved images and shared images use the same size.
  • Fixed: scanning a TracStor QR label with the phone's Camera app now opens that bin (or item). Before, it only opened TracStor.

Version 1.12

  • Print straight to your Clabel printer. TracStor talks to the Clabel CT221B (and other TSPL label printers) over Bluetooth. No more saving an image and opening the Clabel app. In any label preview tap Print on CT221B-…. The first time, allow Nearby devices and pick the printer from your paired devices.
  • Several at once: select bins on Home › QR icon › Print on ….
  • Settings › Label printer: choose or change the printer, darkness, gap between labels, upside-down printing, and a test label.

Version 1.11

  • Every bin and item has a short code, like an airline booking reference: GZ5M7K. It's shown under a bin's name and on an item's Label & tags card; tap it to copy. Label a box by writing the code on tape or printing it with a label maker, instead of a QR code or NFC tag.
  • Type a code into search, or tap Type a code on the Scan screen, to open that bin or item. A barcode or QR that contains just the code works too.
  • Items get labels and tags: Show QR label, Add NFC tag and Link existing code on any item. Scanning or tapping one opens the item.
  • Labels now show the code, and there's a Code only label: the code in big letters, for tape-style labelling.

Version 1.10

  • Stacks: find a box without reading labels. On a place's screen (Locations › a place), the new Stack card shows how the bins there are stacked: the bottom row sits on the floor and boxes count from the left. Tap Arrange, tap a box, then tap the spot it goes in. Boxes already there swap places.
  • Every item in a stacked bin now tells you exactly which box to pull, for example "Bottom row, 5th box from the left", with a small picture of the stack and that box marked with a pin. Bins show it in their header too.
  • Search results and lists add the short position ("Row 1 · Box 5"). Small boxes packed inside a stacked tote point you to the tote.

Version 1.9

  • Clean home-screen icon: the icon now goes on your home screen straight from the app list (touch and hold TracStor, drag it to the home screen), with no extra badge. The old "Add icon" made a shortcut, which Android marks with a small second box in the corner; that's still available as Add a shortcut instead in Settings › Home screen.

Version 1.8

  • Detailed history with filters: History (the clock icon on any bin or item, or tap Added / Last updated › View full history) now has a search box and filters for Change (created, added, edited, moved, removed, restored, photos, tags), Item, What changed (name, quantity, category, location…), Category, Location and Date. Each filter lists only what actually appears in that history, with how many entries have it.
  • Entries are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, dates) with an icon for each kind of change, and show the categories they involve.

Version 1.7

  • Show QR label on every bin, whether or not it has a label yet.
  • New 40 × 30 mm label made for black-and-white thermal printers such as Clabel: bin name, location, category, date and time added, and the QR code. Save image puts it in your gallery (Pictures › TracStor Labels) for your printer app, Share sends it straight to an app, Print uses Android printing.
  • Select several bins on Home to send all their labels to your printer app at once.
  • This Help page (Home › ? icon, or Settings › Help).

Version 1.6

  • Fixed: photos of bins, contents and items now save (before, every photo failed with "Couldn't read that image").
  • The bin's cover photo is shown at full quality.

Version 1.5

  • Items can stand on their own at a location, not only inside a bin.
  • Home: Add button (Item, Bin, Scan), Bins and Items tabs, location chips with counts.
  • Location dropdowns everywhere a place is chosen; locations have a kind (office, vehicle, storage unit…) with an icon.
  • History for every item. New Locations screens. TracStor's own colors by default.

Version 1.4

  • Each bin records where it was entered and shows a small map; tap to open Google Maps.
  • Tap the location under a bin's name to set it. Add/Change QR label and NFC tag.
