Boilerplate

One line

TracStor is an Android app that tracks every bin, box and shelf you own and what's inside, so you can find anything in seconds.

About 50 words

TracStor is a home storage tracker for Android. Label any tote, toolbox or shelf with a QR code or NFC tag, add what's inside by typing, voice or photo, and search “where is my…” to get the exact bin and location. It works offline, needs no account, and keeps your inventory on your phone.

About 100 words

TracStor is a storage tracking app for the places people keep things: homes, garages, storage units and second homes. Every container becomes a “bin” with a location, photos and a list of contents. Bins get QR labels, printed in seconds on a pocket Bluetooth thermal printer, or NFC tags that open the bin with a tap. Items go in by typing, by saying one item at a time, or by taking a photo first. Search answers “where is my…” with the item, the bin and its full location, down to the shelf and stack. TracStor runs on Android, works offline, needs no account and stores everything on the phone.

The story

TracStor started with an office, a few closets and a growing pile of storage bins, and one question that kept coming up: which bin is it in?

Its founder built the first version to answer that question for a real inventory: radios, drone parts, battery connectors and a bin of cables with dozens of items in it. Every feature since came from using it. Voice entry handles one item at a time because a whole spoken list got mangled. Labels leave out the location because bins move and nobody reprints labels. Floor plans exist because “Office” isn't specific enough when the office has a closet, a desk and shelves full of bins.

The logo is the most recognizable storage bin there is, a black tote with a yellow lid, with a location pin rising out of it.

Headlines are set in Big Shoulders Display, body text in Atkinson Hyperlegible, and codes and location paths in IBM Plex Mono. Labels use Roboto Condensed, the same face the app prints with.

The label

TracStor's bin label at its real proportions (50 × 30 mm). The QR code is a working TracStor link: scan it with a phone that has TracStor installed.

Writing about TracStor

  • It's TracStor: one word, capital T and capital S. Not “Tracstor”, “TrackStor” or “Trac Stor”.
  • In TracStor, any container is a bin: a tote, box, toolbox, drawer, shelf or cabinet.
  • Places are written as paths: Garage › Workbench › Shelf 2.
